Herschel
Thornton Mortuary began operating in 1945 as
Thornton Funeral Home. The business was founded by the late Herschel
E. Thornton Jr., a veteran of World War II, and was
located at 483 Mitchell Street in the vicinity of
the Georgia Dome. Herschel, and his wife, the former
Pinkye Guest, secretary for the firm, always
believed in helping those in need.

In
1964, the Thornton's and their only child,
Herschel E. "Chuck" Thornton III, became
a part of the Adamsville community as the business
moved to it's present location as a result of an
urban renewal project. The business became known
as Thornton Mortuary. |

|
Herschel Thornton Mortuary is currently operated by Mrs. Thornton, her son "Chuck" and a staff of dedicated professionals with many years of experience in the profession. Growth in Atlanta's population has also brought forth an almost threefold increase in competition since the inception of the business. Nevertheless, a willingness to help, very reasonable prices, and a
word of mouth advertising from clients, has helped
Herschel Thornton Mortuary to continue to thrive and remain among the top mortuaries in the Atlanta area. |
