Obituary

Mattie Lois Smith Porter was born May 4, 1922, to the late Jimmy Lee Smith and Mattie Bell Nolley Smith in Jasper County, Mansfield, Georgia. She was united in holy matrimony to the late David Porter in 1942; their union was blessed with three daughters, Evelyn Blake-Cody, Shirley Ann Johnson, Betty Williams, and one son, Gary Porter (Jeraldine). Mattie joined Shady Grove Baptist Church and then moved to Atlanta, GA and joined Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.D. Thomas, Pastor. She later joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C.S. Surry, then Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Demetrius Griffin. She served on the Nurses Guild and Mothers Board. She attended Morehouse School of Medicine in Nursing, and retired as a private duty nurse. She enjoyed arts and crafts and checkers.

Mother Mattie Lois Porter was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Chantel McKeever Landers and Anthony Lamar McKeever, and leaves to cherish her memories her children; five grandchildren, Willie Terrell Blake (Gina), Delone Shiree Johnson, Calvin Demetrius Johnson, Eric Porter (Katie), and Marcus Porter (Denesa); one grandson-in-law, Leon Landers; two devoted step-grandchildren, Nicholas Vernon Cody (Marjorie) and Maria Cody; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Terrell Smith (Carrie Mae); sister-in-law, Vera Nell Smith; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
